Johnston Investment Counsel's detailed mutual fund analysis compares a funds key statistics versus style-specific peer group and/or index benchmarks. The goal is to determine, on a variety of different metrics, where a fund ranks compared to its peers. Some of the metrics analyzed include:

1. Executive Summary (summarizes key data on one-page)
2. Fund Characteristics (expense ratio, manager tenure, assets, holdings),
3. Performance Results (cumulative and calendar- year returns)
4. Performance Consistency (percent of time rolling 1- and 3-year returns outperform style-specific benchmarks)
5. Information/Sharpe Ratio Consistency (percent of time rolling 3-year results outperform style-specific benchmarks)
6. Risk Characteristics (sharpe, alpha, beta, standard deviation)
7. Risk Consistency (percent of time risk is below style-specific benchmarks)
8. Portfolio Characteristics (various fundamental characteristics depending on a stock or bond fund)
